Underwater Session FAQs

Underwater photography is unlike any other session. I’ve answered the most frequent questions clients in Sacramento and San Francisco ask about safety, preparation, and the creative process.

I always recommend wearing something that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Swimsuits, flowy dresses, or even fun accessories can look amazing underwater. Just keep in mind that lighter colors tend to pop against the water, and avoid anything that might weigh you down or create drag.

You don’t have to be a pro swimmer, but it helps to be comfortable in the water. I’ll guide you throughout the shoot, and we can even work in shallow areas if you’re not a strong swimmer. Safety is my top priority, so we’ll make certain you feel secure at all times.

I use specialized equipment designed for underwater photography, including waterproof housings and lenses. This gear, combined with my experience and knowledge of lighting in aquatic environments, helps me capture stunning, vibrant images that really tell your story.

The best time for underwater photography generally depends on the location and your comfort with water temperatures. In California, summer and early fall tend to offer warmer water, making it more enjoyable. However, I’m always happy to discuss your preferences to find the perfect timing for your shoot.

Absolutely! Pools are a fantastic option for underwater photography. They offer a controlled environment, which can be less intimidating and allows us to create some beautiful, dreamy shots. I love getting creative with lighting and angles to make the most of the pool setting.
